Captain Fields,
It is with the highest level of respect and admiration that I formally nominate School Resource Deputy (SRD) Marcus Dotson for the Margaret H. Chastain Responder Award. SRD Dotson exemplifies unwavering dedication, courage, and an extraordinary commitment to serving others within our schools and the greater Hamilton County community.
SRD Dotson has become an invaluable member of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, consistently going above and beyond the call of duty. In addition to his responsibilities as the dedicated SRD at Sale Creek Middle/High School, he proudly serves as a member of the HCSO Honor Guard and as a Field Training Officer (FTO), shaping and mentoring the next generation of deputies with professionalism and integrity.
What sets SRD Dotson apart is his selfless leadership and tireless efforts to elevate those around him. He regularly leads and develops trainings for the SRD Unit, investing countless hours to ensure his peers are well-prepared to serve our schools safely and effectively. He seeks no recognition for these efforts, demonstrating a genuine servant-leadership mindset that embodies the spirit of this prestigious award.
At Sale Creek Middle/High School, SRD Dotson is far more than a uniformed officer—he is a trusted mentor, counselor, and role model to faculty, staff, and students alike. Through daily interactions, he has fostered deep trust and a positive school culture where safety and support are paramount. Whether it is resolving conflicts, providing guidance to a struggling student, or collaborating with educators to enhance school safety initiatives, SRD Dotson consistently displays unmatched compassion and professionalism.
SRD Dotson’s dedication to the school extends beyond his law enforcement duties. He volunteers his time for the school’s cross-country team and assists with the baseball program, further strengthening his bond with students and serving as a positive influence both on and off the field. His willingness to invest in the personal growth and success of young athletes highlights his commitment to developing strong, confident, and responsible youth.
His impact extends well beyond the school walls. SRD Dotson is heavily involved in the community, dedicating personal time to attend sporting events, school club activities, and community gatherings. Beyond his professional role, he is a devoted family man, deeply engaged in his children’s lives. He coaches his son’s football team and is a constant presence supporting his daughter’s volleyball games, modeling the importance of family, leadership, and community service.
SRD Dotson’s commitment is evident in every aspect of his service:
- Leadership and Mentorship: Training and guiding fellow SRDs and deputies with patience and excellence.
- Honor Guard Service: Representing HCSO with honor and reverence during solemn and ceremonial duties.
- Community Engagement: Actively participating in school and local events to build unity and trust.
- Youth Development: Coaching and mentoring students through athletics, fostering teamwork and discipline.
- Positive Influence: Bringing energy, optimism, and a solutions-driven mindset to every challenge.
In every situation, SRD Dotson reflects the ideal model of an employee and public servant. His actions continually enhance the safety, trust, and well-being of the school community, making a lasting difference that resonates with students, parents, faculty, and peers.
For these reasons, the supervision of the SRD Unit wholeheartedly believes that SRD Marcus Dotson embodies the true essence of the Margaret H. Chastain Responder Award. His dedication, courage, and relentless commitment to serving others—both professionally and personally—make him not only deserving of this honor but also a shining example of excellence in law enforcement.
Thank you for your consideration of this nomination.
Respectfully,
BK
