Honoring Our First Responders

On Saturday, September 27, 2025, the Knights of Columbus Council 14079 hosted our annual First Responder Appreciation Breakfast at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Soddy-Daisy. This cherished event brings together our community’s firefighters, police officers, EMTs, and their families for a hearty homemade breakfast prepared and served by our brother Knights. It’s our way of saying thank you to the men and women who protect and serve our community every day.

This year’s breakfast held special meaning as we once again remembered and celebrated the legacy of Margaret H. Chastain, whose unwavering dedication to public service and community betterment inspired the creation of the Margaret H. Chastain First Responder Award.

Margaret’s life embodied service—to her city, her church, and her neighbors. A graduate of Tyner High School and a retired member of the Chattanooga Police Department, she devoted her time to causes ranging from the Red Cross and the Hamilton County Education system to the founding of the Soddy-Daisy “Wall of Honor.” Her tireless volunteerism and deep love for family, faith, and country continue to inspire our council’s commitment to recognizing the everyday heroes who follow in her footsteps.

During the event, Grand Knight Marc Steger shared remarks reflecting on Margaret’s spirit of service and the vital role first responders play in keeping our community safe. The morning was filled with fellowship, gratitude, and reflection—reminding us that our freedom and safety are gifts earned daily by those who answer the call.
