The Dallas Bay Fire Department in cooperation with the Knights of Columbus Council 14079 has added an award to be handed out to one of the Explorers from their group each year. An explorer is a child in the community that is interested in the volunteer fire fighters and the work that they do. Since they are underage they cannot be volunteer fire fighters, but this program helps them to get to know what the firefighters do, and they spend time at the station working with the Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire Fighters. Many of the you ng men and women who have enrolled in this program int he past have gone on to be fire fighters at Dallas Bay and also members of the fire departments in the local area.
The purpose of this award is to award that individual who has demonstrated both an interest in fire fighting and is an active member in the faith community as well. Hopefully we can work with the other departments that have young teen involvement and add on additional awards in the future. This year’s recipient is the first of what will be an ongoing acknowledgement of an explorer’s dedication to the Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire Department.
